(Follow the next post on Dusit’s Talk of the Town Dining Venues)
Located in the busy but environmental-friendly area across the Lumpini (Lake) Park and next to Silom MRT, Dusit Thani Bangkok, founded in 1970, stood the test of time and a Thai hospitality gem since 48 years.
The name of the hotel in itself bears promising meaning that implies a stay in the bliss of paradise.
Now in its final year of operation, the hotel marches towards a closure on 06 January 2019, which will be taking a rebirth in the form of a landmark of the cosmopolitan and elevate the brand image at a staggering estimated cost of Thai Baht 36.7 billion (about US$ 1.1 billion) redefining hospitality in a mien of grandeur and luxury – a mixed-use project, adopting Thai style design embracing green concept and innovate living areas with latest technology to add value to consumer travel demands.
Taking a look back down the memory lane of Dusit Thani, the hotel was founded by Thanpuying Chanut Piyaoui, with a passion of introducing to international travelers the concept of Thai hospitality and reflection of Thai design in each room of the property. The opening ceremony of the hotel, then the tallest building of Bangkok, was regally ordained
by Queen Rambai Barni. The 517 room landmark hotel of Bangkok has served a lavish lifestyle place for the royal families, celebrities including renowned artists, singers, showbiz personalities, business tycoons and serving the venue banquet services to hold top business and leisure events including sumptuous wedding receptions.
I have many fond memories, building new friendships at the many travel and showbiz events that I had attended at the hotel’s banqueting areas and winding up the evening on a comfy bed in the elegant Thai Heritage Suite.
In an interview with khun Titiya Xuto, General Manager Dusit Thani and VP Operations Thailand; khun Xuto expressed mixed emotions with the hotel closure for restructure of the hotel. The staff and guests who have been associated with the hotel over a long span of time, it’s a natural feeling to feel unhappy over the hotels closure but looking up at the prospect of the hotel to reopen with a new, better landmark of Bangkok.
Some of the work of art shall be retained and put back into the new building, said khun Xuto. One example is seen in an effort in somehow securing of rare work of art on the pillars of the Benjarong Thai restaurant. The water fountain may be taller and better than the existing one.
Khun Xuto discussed the relevance of the campaign “The Timeless Legend” before the closure to invite and bring back the loyal guests to the hotel’s festivities and for their awareness of the reopening of the hotel on completion.
The flagship hotel of the Dusit International Company, the 5 star deluxe Dusit Thani Hotel, in celebration of the closing campaign “ The Timeless Legend” featuring festivities, special menu at the restaurants, generously offers to the guests normal service tuned on full operating capability during the last quarter of the year until 05 January 2019.
