Visionary hotelier, multi-lingual khun Pierre- André Pelletier, a die-hard People’s Person (a rarity, at the verge of extinction, brought by the new Gen workforce in hospitality), recently joined one of Bangkok’s legendary hotels, steeped in history – the Montien Surawong, Bangkok. Appointed as the Area General Manager, Pierre- André, a graduate from Switzerland’s most prestigious Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne, brings with him over 30 years hospitality excellence in Europe and Asia.

A two year absentee from Thailand due to COVID travel restriction, I choose the hotel as my first abode on arrival. After a quick immigration clearance, I got on to the Airportlink SkyTrain to PhayaThai station and continued the journey to Sala-Daeng station. At the exit, a short ride on tuk-tuk transported me (from Airport to the hotel) within an hour. The hotel is a few minutes walking distance from Samyan MRT station.

Khun Pierre received me with the usual warmth in a spirit of welcoming to my abode and introduced me to his dedicated team.

The design hotel with contemporary Thai style ambiance boasts among the 3 historic Stay’tements in Bangkok. The South wing of the hotel, inaugurated by Queen Sirkit was opened on 14 February 1967. Adorned with classic features, the ambiance of the hotel has a charming appeal displayed in large mural paintings by Thailand’s legendary artist: khun Paiboon Suvarnakood. Later expansion of the North wing in 1977 positioned the hotel a Home Away from Home for statesmen, celebrities and lifestyle travelers, which housed a Theater; Ball-room dancing; the Talk-of-the-town Phar-ram IV Bistro and the Ruenton restaurant – all in all, the addition to the building ensured original architectural features and artifacts intact. Recent renovation in 2019 was carried out with a consciousness of ‘Revival of the Origin’.

Designed in classical features, the Banquet Hall has an imperialistic ambiance, with murals on the walls depicting tales from the epic Ramayana. Banquet facility accommodates up to 800 standing cocktail gatherings and about 400 sit-down dining arrangement.

Well-appointed 485 spacious rooms redefine luxury in 3 categories:

Junior Suite, Premier and Deluxe.

Each room is equipped with the State of the Art luxury amenities including Samsung Ultra High Definition UHT Smart TV. On arrival at the Junior Suite on the 14th floor, the welcome fruits tray comes with addictive cakes and confectionery. The spacious domain is tastefully trimmed with fixtures and fittings ensuring the next level modern living, introducing the latest high-tech toilet seat and health-giving toiletry products. The overall hotel management adheres to a philosophy of what today’s experiential visitor need during travel – a sense of responsible tourism. www.montienbangkok.com/en
